Annette M. Buckley, 85, of the Swarthmorewoods section of Ridley Township died September 25 at Vitas Hospice at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. Mrs. Buckley was born in Chester the daughter of the late Antonio and Mary nee Twarog Buckley and she attended St. Hedwig’s School and Chester High School. She had lived in Swarthmorewoods since 1955 and was devoted to her family and home. She was a member of Notre Dame deLourdes Church. more…
John J. Maguire, Jr., 86, a 56 year resident of Wallingford died September 17 at Mountain View Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mr. Maguire was born in Chester, the son of the late John J. and Mary L. nee Maguire Maguire. He attended the former Resurrection of Our Lord School and St. Robert Grammar School and graduated from the former St. Robert High School. Mr. Maguire was employed as a paper maker at Scott Paper Co. for 43 years retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. John Chrysostom Church and American Legion Post 926 in Aston. more…
Irene Sacks, 76, died September 17 at the home of her daughter in Media. Mrs. Sacks was born in Plymouth, PA the daughter of the late Edward and Bridget nee Mazur Kluchinski. Mrs. Sacks came to Chester at age 12 and graduated from Chester High School in 1948. Mrs. Sacks had lived in Woodlyn for 49 years prior to moving to her daughter’s home last year. more…
Karen A. Stewart, 51, of Upland died September 6 at Crozer Chester Medical Center. Mrs. Taylor was born in Upland the daughter of the late E. Price and Ann nee Hargen Taylor. Mrs. Stewart was a graduate of Collingdale High School and Shippensburg University. She was employed as a social worker at Elwyn Institute, Granite Farms and Connor Williams Nursing Home.
Mrs. Stewart was very active in the historic preservation of buildings and President of Upland Historical Society and active with Reading Room Trust in Upland. more…
Charles S. Owen of Swarthmore died on Sept. 5, 2007 at home. He was born in Springfield, MO the son of Frank C. & Helen (nee Scott) Owen. He has been a resident of Swarthmore for the past 28 years. He recieved his BS in Physics from the University of Rochester, his Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania. He then went on to complete Post Doctoral work at UCSB, Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Pennsylvania. He went on to teach at the University of Pennsylvania, and then to Thomas Jefferson University for 25 years, teaching Bio-Chemistry. more…
