Sarah E. “Betty” Plass, 82, of Upper Chichester Township died May 25 at Naamans Creek Country Manor. Mrs. Plass was born in Chester the daughter of the late William Q. and Mary T. nee Kelly Berry and attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School and Immaculate Heart of Mary Commercial School. William C. Montgomery of Swarthmore died on Monday May 25, 2009, at Broomall Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Mr. Montgomery was born in Washington, DC the son of the late William E. & Rita (nee Dougherty) Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery was educated in the Washington DC area having attended John Carroll High School and graduated from Suitland High School in Suitland, MD. Mr. Montgomery has been a resident of Swarthmore for the past 30 years. An avid sports fan, Bill love baseball, basketball, football, bowling, shooting pool and fishing either from a boat, in the surf or fly fishing. He is survived by his wife of six years Linda M (nee Johnson) Montgomery. more…
George J. Lawler, 74, of Woodstown, New Jersey formerly of Concord Township, PA died May 20 at Christiana Hospital. Mr. Lawler was born in Colwyn the son of the late George J. and Anna nee Hissner Lawler and moved to Chester in 1944.
He attended Resurrection of Our Lord School and graduated from St. James High School in 1953.
Mr. Lawler retired from Sun Oil Co. Marcus Hook in 1997 as a pipefitter after 30 years of service. more…
Joseph M. Bell, Sr., 87, a 54 year resident of Aston died at home May 12, 2009 surrounded by his family. Mr. Bell was born in Chester the son of the late James A. and Katie nee Fols Bell and was educated in the Chester Schools. Mr. Bell and his wife were the co-owners of Bell’s Apparel a women’s clothing store in Chester of 34 years. more…

Nether Providence resident; school teacher
Barbarann S. Wright, 77, of the Wallingford section of Nether Providence, a longtime public and Catholic school teacher, died May 6 in Vitas Hospice at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby after a 10-year battle with colon cancer.
Born in New York City, she moved to Drexel Hill with her family in fourth grade. She graduated from Holy Child High School in Sharon Hill, Rosemont College and earned a master’s degree from Villanova University.
Mrs. Wright taught history at the former Bala Cynwyd Junior High School in the Lower Merion School District for 11 years before leaving the classroom to raise her three children.
Concluding there was a better job market for math teachers, she returned to college part-time at Temple University to gain math certification. Mrs. Wright went on to teach geometry for 13 years at Padua Academy in Wilmington, Del., where she also coached field hockey and tennis. She retired in 1998. more…
