Stanley A. Deinakowski Jr., 57, died at home in Darby on January 14. Mr. Deinakowski was born in Upland the son of Mary T. nee Brown and the late Stanley A. Deinakowski. He was a graduate of Salesianum High School. He was employed as a crane operator at Phoenix Steel until retiring in April 2008 on disability.
He is survived by his mother Mary T. nee Brown Deinakowski of Upper Chichester, two sisters Patricia Smith and Maureen Everett both of Brookhaven and nieces and nephews. more…
Josephine G. Hynes, 87, a life long resident of Chester died January 7 at the Belvedere Center after a long illness. Miss Hynes was born in Chester the daughter of the late Harry A. and Adelaide nee Roney Hynes.
Miss Hynes graduated as the Valedictorian of her class from St. Robert High School in 1940 which was the last class. She went on to graduate from Drexel Institute of Technology, now Drexel University in Philadelpia. She taught at Chester High School during WW II. She subsequently worked for Curtis Publishing Company for 25 years both in Philadelphia and New York City until it closed in 1971. She was employed by the Lippincott Publishing Company and later Harper Row until her retirement in late 1987. more…
Ruth Ann Tucker, 82, of Vero Beach, FL formerly of Chester died December 19, 2009 at home. Mrs. Tucker was born in Chester the daughter of the late James and Anna nee McCullough Corbin and attended Chester schools.
Mrs. Tucker had lived in Vero Beach for 26 years moving from Chester. She was employed in the finishing department at Scott Paper Co. now Kimberly Clark for 26 years before retiring in 1982. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and Sunday School teacher.
She was married to the late John Tucker who died in 1988. more…
James M. Gassaway, 87, of Swarthmore died January 5 at Riddle Village. He was born in 1922 in Cairo, Il. He was 1st Lt. C.E. in US Army New Guinea, Philippines during WWII. He received his BS MIT “Business and Engineering Administration” in Sept. 1950.
Mr. Gassaway was Executive Vice President for Planning, and Development and Research and a member of the Board of Directors of Strawbridge & Clothier and retired in 1987 after 37 years.
He was a longtime resident of Wallingford and Swarthmore. more…
Frances A. Speckhals, 87, died on Jan. 5, 2010 at Riddle Village, Media. PA. Mrs. Speckhals was born in Chester, PA the daughter of the late James K. and Mary (nee King) Powell. Mrs. Speckhals was a graduate of the former Notre Dame High School in Moylan, PA. Mrs. Speckhals was a resident of Media for the past 2 years, having formerly lived in Aston and Wallingford, PA. Mrs. Speckhals was retired from the Media Clinic where she had been employed as the billing Supervisor for many years. more…
