Edwin George Abel, Jr. 75, of Wallingford died May 28 at Wallingford Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Abel was born in Baltimore, MD the son of the late Edwin George and Josephine nee Hardy Abel. Mr. Abel had lived in Wallingford for 25 years previously living in Springfield (Delco). He was a graduate of Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College). He was employed by the Social Security Administration for over 50 years retiring in 2007 as the Director of Operations for the Mid-Atlantic Region. more…
John J. Strain, Jr., 79, died May 11 at Riddle Memorial Hospital. Mr. Strain was born in Chester the son of the late John J. and Catherine nee Kane Strain. He attended St. Anthony’s Grammar School and graduated from St. James High School in 1948.
Mr. Strain was employed at FMC Corp and was a case worker for the Department of Welfare for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 15 years retiring in 1993. Also, he was a part time sexton at the former St. Robert’s Church.
He was a cub master at St. Robert’s and was an avid reader particularly enjoying history. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. more…

Master Craftsman and Artisan
Kenneth (Ken) Bannen, 55, of Glenolden and Pierce’s Point, NJ, died at Taylor Hospice on May 8, 2010 due to cancer.
A master craftsman in architectural and period restoration projects, Ken began his training at the age of 13 mentored by his uncle Nick Senchishin. He delighted in applying detailed knowledge of architectural principles to his work with intricate and large scale building projects such as the replacement of two story Tuscan Columns at Wyola Hill Estate in Newtown Square. One of his finest accomplishments is the renovation of his home, Wavestruck, at Pierce’s Point along the Jersey Shore. In the words of his wife, “Ken made a gem out of a very rough stone. This is Ken: his attention to detail, his clever use of space, and his ability to mix artistically different periods and styles.” more…
