Madeline M. Broderick, of Wallingford died on Sunday August 22, 2010 at Crozer Chester Medical Center. Madeline was born in Philadelphia the daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret (Nee Phillips) Kelly. She was a graduate of West Catholic High School for Girls and St. Joseph College. Madeline has been a resident of the Wallingford area of Nether Providence Township for over 33 years. She was a dedicated Teacher having taught in the Catholic Schools of the Philadelphia Archdiocese, having taught at St. Gabriel in Norwood, St. Louis, in Yeadon and for 20 years at St. Robert and St. Katherine Drexel in Chester till her retirement in 2007. more…
Thomas M. Lavin, 87, of Aston died August 17 at Springfield Hospital. Mr. Lavin was born in Chester the son of the late Michael and Mary Ellen nee Murtaugh Lavin. He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School and Chester High School. Mr. Lavin had been a resident of Aston for over 50 years.
Mr. Lavin retired from the United States Navy after 21 years of service. While in the Navy in the Navy he was awarded the Preidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaing Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Phillipine Liberation Ribbon, Navy Occupation Service Medal. more…
Nicholas Chabon, retired Philadelphia Electric Company employee, died of cancer on Saturday August 14, 2010 in Riddle Memorial Hospital, Media, PA. He was born in Gilberton, Schuylkill County, PA the son of the late Onufer and Anna (nee Bobiak) Chabon.
He was a graduate of Gilberton High School class of 1947.
Upon graduating from High School, he enlisted in the US Navy. He played drums, piano and clarinette, hence he was selected to play in the Navy band. After leaving the Navy he formed the Nick Chabon Orchestra which was very popular and successful in the Schuylkill County Area. more…
Anthony F. Pinnie, an educator and attorney known for his adventurous spirit and sense of humor, departed this life at the age of 78 on August 14th, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in 1931 in South Philadelphia, he was the proud son of Italian immigrant parents Mary and John Pinnie. After attending South Philadelphia High School, where he was later elected to the school’s Hall of Fame, he became the first member of his family to attend college, matriculating at Penn State University and graduating with a degree in Education.
He was drafted into the Army, and because of his proficiency in languages was stationed in Salzburg, Austria, working for the forerunner of the CIA during the Cold War. more…
